• I think that you need to talk to Oracle and the vendors. What are their plans for the platforms and their relationships with Oracle (e.g. development, benchmarking, ...).
• Consider what is included in service/support agreements
• Which platform (hardware/os) is best *for you* depends very much upon what kind of competence you own. It takes a lot of time to get to know the environment good enough to support the systems running on it.

I hope others will input more ideas and advice..!
