Yes, it's like a mainframe, but with an important difference.

In Grid, blades are allocated, and then work must be transferred to them.

No dynamic allocateion of CPU like in MVS/ESA.

Oracle says transportable tablespaces and distributed SQL are part of their Grid technology, implying that Gris will transfer work to standby Oracle servers.
