But, of course, between the end-users and the database there are several tiers that could be running Java, Perl, C, web servers, app servers, and who knows what else: Even cracker attacks.

Patience is called for. Eventually we will know what happened.

And when we do the important thing will be to learn from the experience. Microsoft had a huge security hole exposed today that affects all of their O/S offerings. I don't see panic in the streets on that and it affects every Windows machine on the planet.

Everyone should just take a deep breath and get back to their own issues for now.
