I'd not upgrade from 8i to 9ir1 nowadays.
But that's just me and my complete distrust 
of anything from Oracle that reads "r1" or "v1".
However, 9ir2 I see no reason whatsoever to 
suspect.  AND it's got some very nice stuff!
