I agree, but it has been suggested though to me (by a consultancy not my employer) that

  1. I don't include my company affiliation in my sig and
  2. I never mention versions.

not for legal reasons but for other technical reasons. I,personally, think that the legal argument holds more weight than the technical one, but neither is daft. All I would say is IMO anyone who applies something from usenet without testing is seriously incompetent.

Naturally until forced to I'll do neither of the above.
