Check out LFS (Large File Support) -- it is in newer distributions. Oracle 9i was built with LFS, I believe, so you should be able to at least use filesystems larger than 2GB. Sometimes you get oddities, like distributions with a kernel that supports LFS, but basic utilities like dd that don't.
