Is this continuous, or peak?
If it's continuous, then it seems to me you need to go up in size by a factor of 30 to 40.
We're talking half-to-one gb logfiles here, every 5-10 minutes. Can the archiver keep up? Do you have the space?

I'd recommend you resolve these issues before attempting the upgrade to 9i.
