Of course Oracle is broken. This is beyond any doubt. The question is what broke it. I thought I made it clear that I thought the most likely problem was a setting I was missing. I.e. I have done something wrong or failed to do something right. Since I didn't do much I assumed it was the latter.

I listed as much of the configuration as possible in case it would be helpful. If it looked like I was blaming the hardware I am sorry. For the most part I was apologizing for using a Compaq.
