Ed,

V$Version for me gives me :

Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.7.4.0 - 64bit Production PL/SQL Release 8.1.7.4.0 - Production
CORE 8.1.7.0.0 Production
TNS for HPUX: Version 8.1.7.4.0 - Production NLSRTL Version 3.4.1.0.0 - Production

on a 64 bit 817 install on HPUX.

Other tests :

cd $ORACLE_HOME/bin
file oracle

which gives me this, again on 64 bit HPUX with 64 bit Oracle :

ora817> file oracle
oracle: ELF-64 executable object file - PA-RISC 2.0 (LP64)

Don't be tempted to try it on the utilities, as shown below :

ora817> file exp
exp: PA-RISC1.1 shared executable dynamically linked -not stripped

(Unless this is wrong, I do have a TAR open at the moment as 817 exp will not export from a 920 database, hmmmm !)

HTH Regards,
Norman.
