Thank You, Alex, but we are not running MTS (I should have mentioned in the first place ...),
we have Dedicated Server ... "pity" ...

Some complain "that didnīt happen on the older db !!" - that was Oracle EE 8.0.5, we migrated to 8.1.7. four months ago. Well, but we definitely donīt go back to an older version ...

Any more guesses ? Some SQL*Plus configs ? I have no idea what this could be.
And I did a lot of RTFMing in the last weeks (not only for this problem ...)
