It depends.

Sorry I couldn't resist! I've seen sites go the whole gamut from log switching every couple of minutes to not wanting to at all. It really does depend on a number of things:

  1. Preferred duration of recovery.
  2. Volume of data changes
  3. Disk space availability (particularly if archiving is turned on)

Multiple other issues as well. FWIW, YMMV and other strange newsgroupo acronyms. :)
