It depends.

If you use the migration utility, it takes the time to take a safety first backup, time to run the actual mig utility (not long but you may want to run with check_only first to ensure you have sufficient space), time to convert the database (again not long but dependent on the number of datafiles) and time to recreate the data dictionary (20 mins or so but dependent on your box).

If you use export/import, it's pretty well dependent on the size of your database (minutes to days).
