Common misconception.
The DB2 engine on OS/2 Windows, AIX and Linux is ~95% identical. Knowning that Oracle does "deep ports" I doubt Oracle's numbers are "better" (whatever better might mean in this context). More commonality means weak OS, exploitation. Less comonality means the argument backfires, right?

The DB2 engine on z/OS and AS/400 are indeed 100% different due to the their different hardware architecture and in case of OS/400 the tight integration between OS and DB2.
This blade cuts both sides. On the z/Series DB2 can claim a quasi monopoly despite presence on competition. Thus I see this as a case in favor of a distinct codebase.
