Not a stereotype of the Dutch I recognize, though perhaps one they recognize in themselves. And I'll always recall the tale (attributed IIRC to Eddie Izzard) of going into a McDonalds in Amsterdam and asking 'Do you speak English?' to be met with a withering stare as if the question was 'Can you tie your own shoelaces'. I have yet to try the suggested equivalent of going into a McDonalds in the UK or US and asking 'Do you speak Dutch?'
