... and of course, also working for $10/hour. :-)
Someone here recommends that this contestion should be used as a
challenge and anyone should compete with these third world workers.
Not a chance, chap. No one from the West world can compete with
someone who grow up in country where average salaries are one dolar
per day and who can live in USA with salary $10/hour and still can
sent half of it to his parents and fifteen brothers and sisters. :-)
However the problem doesn't lies in these sorry people. The problem is
a sheer stupidity of CIOs who think that the costs is something to be
lowered as much as possible, without considerations about consequenses
of this move.
The problem of CIO is that it's usually a short time job. This manager
lasts on his chair for year or two and then move on, with his CV full
of accomplishments like "reducing IT costs in BrainWashing Limited to
20% of its original size" or "optimalisation of IT HR costs in Chapter
5 Group using modern IT management strategy" (which means sack
everyone with more than 50k$ anually and pay 500k$ for the same work
for consultants from International Certified Freshmen). So someone
else can take this job after him and next year write on CV
"consolidation of IT department of BrainWashing Limited from scratch"
or "reducing outsourcing IT costs using latest business strategies
(kick of ICF and hiring United IT Seniors of Gurunduvaju).
The only way for real IT professional to survive this mess is to find
proper company with sane management and long term survival strategy.
There are still these companies and after all hope is something to die
last. :-)
