OK, I think I see what they're trying to do. HA without RAC i.e. two (or more) node cluster, database on shared disk, node 1 dies and they restart the database and the listener on node 2 yeh?

If that's the case, I still don't see why they said install on two nodes. A CFS is a CFS is a CFS. Why would anyone want to fake it when they have the real thing already built in the OS? It'd be like building you own replication, complete with your own conflict detection and resolution, when you already have a site license for EE. Sounds like they're not taking advantage of the technology they already have. Having said that, I went to one site in the Middle East where they set up (perfectly) replication from one node of a cluster to another node for machine failover. ;)

As for Oracle supporting other CFS's, when the hardware vendors put it in the OS layer, we would probably support it unless there's a problem with it e.g. I think we don't support database files on Sun's equivalent (mental blank due to the late hour on what it's called - global file systems or something similar?) because it simply doesn't perform well enough.
