Depending on the OS, 32 bit software will have an SGA limit between 2 - 4 Gb. (I believe this applies to all instances on a server. So if you have 2 instances, the SGA for both instances combined must be less than 2-4Gb)

64 bit software will be limited to the amount of memory the server can physically handle.
