narh. just took 5 years to get BG's mum (at the time a member of the board of IBM) to get big blue to call in at her son's shop. don't forget the G family wasn't exactly poor to start with...

apparently he and Bill Allen came up with the first BASIC interpreter. and that was just about it.
I have a vague recollection of reading something about this in one of the Elektor or Wireless World magazines in the early 70's.

something about a small company that had come up with a BASIC interpreter that could be loaded into memory from tape. and could be used in the first primitive home computers. long before the Commodore PET. could well have been MS, since the name Bill Allen was quite familiar first time I heard it associated with PCs.

but all that is anecdotical. it doesn't matter what BG did as a programmer or as a techo.
he's a shrewd businessman and has a good family background in that area.

that's all. no need for any technical expertise or merit. particularly in this industry.
