Yes. My mention of oradim73 was the result of a copy&paste from an obsolete template script. I had thought I was copying from the script I was actually using, but turned out I copied from the wrong file, which also explains why the first post had -shuttype srvc when that is not the case.

DBA Studio is a gui tool to access instance manager, storage mgr, security manager, etc. Yes, if I shutdown using instance manager (within DBA Studio), I can still connect as internal using instance manager (again, within DBA Studio) to open an instance. I'll experiment with sqlplus.
