Installing Oracle Java is very slow

I have a Personal Oracle 8i setup on my laptop (650MHz, 256M RAM). It runs fine. However, I just tried to create a new database, with Java enabled (first time I've tried using Java).

The database create took HUGE amounts of time - over an hour. In the end, I killed it as I couldn't believe there wasn't something wrong. However, a colleague told me he had had a similar experience.

Is setting up a Java-enabled database *really* that slow?
