For starters, I'm using HP-UX 10.10 for the OS
Having a problem with Oracle 7.2.3 database. It first
appeared when I was running a program that puts database
records on DAT tape. What I observed was that a short
process was taking 45 minutes, I knew something was wrong.
After some analysis this is what I also observed:
- the ora_arch process was running continuously
- it was continously writing to the same file brr_0000001415.arc
but the file was constantly changing size, I think the arch
process was infinitely looping, writing maybe 500,000 bytes to
the file then starting from 0 again, but I don't know why
- I could no longer shutdown the database properly with
SVRMGRL's SHUTDOWN command (not even immediate)
- after rebooting the database was locked out from all
connections except INTERNAL, claiming that archiving
was in process ...
- I've restored the entire FS from backup tape because
I wanted to turn off the archive feature in init.ora
so I set log_archive_start = FALSE
- After rebooting the OS, Oracle appeared to start fine
I could connect with SQL and look at tables and records,
but as soon I ran my originally mentioned program again
the database went into space so to speak.
- I can not compile Pro*C programs, the compile just hangs
- I can not run any database interaction programs, they hang
- I can do a svrmgrl shutdown properly
- I have plenty of disk space
- I have 128 mb of RAM
- We have 47 tables under our default user VP18SYS
- The biggest table is 300,000 records (*98 bytes per record)
- I'm not personally aware of any major changes to the Oracle
database settings or files
- I did a full database export and reimport (and truncated
the 47 tables under my default user in the db) 2 weeks
ago, but things were fine after that, and this problem
appeared 4 days ago.
Bottom line is that the database seems to be corrupt and
I really need some help in solving this problem, please if
you have any ideas send me a response here or to my email
address jpl_at_ncf.ca
Thanks very much,
Peace be with you.
