Quite different from "could" of course.

And different again from "can".

I think the real issue here is: what will SAP support? I wouldn't want to blow a tend-of-thousands of dollars support contract just to prove a point. That said, if it's an Oracle database, of course there is nothing to stop you querying the underlying tables directly (whether you can make sense of them is an entirely different proposition).
