The original poster wanted to know what she should install on so as to best mimic what the real world looks like. And (by implication) what it *will* look like soon enough.

And as Solaris for Intel is no longer a supported platform for 9i, and 9i is the latest version, it seems somewhat perverse to shunt him or her in the direction of learning a version with a limited future on a platform with no future!

Hence my reference to "future-proofing".
