That's a big part of the problem. We have people doing jobs they aren't prepared or willing to do, all in the name of TCO. Nothing wrong with being a s/w developer for Windows, a LOT wrong with having to do double-duty as sysadmin/dba.

Having said that, there are quite a few "features" of the install/admin of ORACLE that should have been fixed ages ago. It's still too fragile. It will get better, but it's taking a darn long time...

Of course I can. I'm not bothered with the Windows interface at all. I just want one interface for DBA work, across the board. Couldn't care less what the OS is, provided it doesn't get in my way. With the current state of technology, I don't think it's feasible to consider a pure Windows interface to administer say a Unix database. Therefore, I prefer to use a Java interface. It looks and works the same be it in Windows or Unix.
