We are running Oracle 8.1.7.2 on UNIX AIX, and having problems with a
query that we are trying to run. The query ran in about 15 minutes in
Oracle 8.0.6. Now we have upgraded to 8i, and if you run the same query
logged in as a dba, say SYSTEM, it still runs in about 15 minutes. If
you log in as anyone else it can run for 16+ hours, but does eventually
return the data.
Because of that behavior I suspect the new Resource Manager may be the culprit, but I'm having a hard time determining if the Resource Manager is even being applied. When I query the dba_rsrc_plans view it shows the System_Plan (the default) as having an 'Active' status. However the documentation states that "If the RESOURCE_MANAGER_PLAN parameter is not specified, the Database Resource Manager is disabled." When I check the current init<sis>.ora parameters by a 'show parameters' command the RESOURCE_MANAGER_PLAN parameter is null. Does anyone know if the Resource Manager is being used since it's status is Active, or if it is disabled since the init parameter is null?
The documentation also states that you can use the ALTER SYSTEM command to disable the Database Resource Manager, but when I look up the Alter System command I don't see the syntax for disabling it. How do you disable the Resource Manager if it is active?
Any ideas what might cause the behavior described in the first paragraph other than the Resource Manager? We don't set up any user profiles, user groups, or resource plans, just accept the default.
Thanks for any tips,
Lisa
