if you don't make a backup.. 2-3 hours
running those sciprts takes pretty much the same on any hardware, since they don't run in 'multiprocessor' mode.

BTW, I am not sure if direct upgrade is supported, when I did one recently I ran two scripts : one to upgrade on 8.1.6 other to upgrade to 8.1.7

Other things (such as options) have to be taken into consideration, e.g. I had to drop and rebuild context/intermedia.

We use Oracle 8.1.6-8.1.7 on Solaris 2.6, 2.7 boxes
