object no longer exists!!!!

Hello all,
i am facing a very strange problem.
when i do a select from any table i am getting this error message,

SQLWKS> select * from eb_bcp_job_user

JOB_INT_ID                             USER_ID
---------------------------------------- ------------------------------

ORA-08103: object no longer exists

but select * from tab, lists all the table. what do you think has gone wrong.
basically i was running a database intensive procedure, which contantly updates a log table and while the procedure was running, i just queried the log table and this happened.

any help greatly appreciated,
