  1. since she's so itelligent, she should be able to learn Java on her own and pass the certification exams -- then she can put Java on her resume among her proficiencies -- just don't break the various skills into years per. call it a fudge, but you should be smart enough to do something like that -- unless she's going to be a DBA, no special Oracle skills needed, as the JDBC interface in Java tends to be highly universal. OR
  2. tell her to stop applying for jobs for which Java is a requirement. she has enough of a skillset to find employment --- i.e., there are PLENTY of jobs out there for good C, PERL, Web(JavaScript, HTML) programmers
