Oracle 8.1.7, Solaris 7. I'm in svrmgrl, issuing the 'shutdown immediate' command..and the database never finishes shutting down. I have to manually kill some abandoned arc processes, ie:

  oracle 22736 1 0 Mar 22 ? 0:05 ora_arc5_prod1
  oracle 22739 1 0 Mar 22 ? 0:04 ora_arc6_prod1
  oracle 18631 1 0 Mar 21 ? 0:06 ora_arc4_prod1

After I manually kill these procs then the database finishes shutting down. This is making it difficult to automate the cold backups. Any help much appreciated...
