sorry, that won't work.

Archive-Log mode is recorded in the control-file. You alter the status of archivelog-mode by typing ALTER DATABASE ARCHIVELOG or
ALTER DATABASE NOARCHIVELOG. In your initSID.ora you switch the automatic archiving on or off with the parameter
LOG_ARCHIVE_START = TRUE | FALSE You can run a database in ARCHIVELOG-mode with LOG_ARCHIVE_:START = FALSE.
Then you have to archive the logs manually or the instance will hang when redo logs are full.
