There seems to be a problem with Oracle 8.1.6 and the glibc shipping
with Redhat 7.0; when the installer relinks Oracle executables during
install, the result is a flawed program.
Go to bugzilla.redhat.com and query bug# 18391. There is a very
detailed description of the problem and a workaround.
I tried it and managed to install and create databases.
