Is there a slowdown in the Oracle market?

Wanted to ask you guys if you sensed a slowdown in the Oracle market? I live in the New York/New Jersey area and have been working with Oracle the last six months. I will be Oracle 8i DBA certified probably within the month.

I wanted to know if there was a slowdown in the market for DBAs (especially Oracle)? I know that many people on this board are working towards certification and hope to land a job in Oracle soon but are there too many people coming in? Its already very difficult for a entry level person to get a job an an Oracle DBA. Increasingly, companies are looking for more than just Oracle DBA skills (e.g ERP software and System Administration)

What would you reccomend for a new Oracle DBA? Should the person work on the internet features to get an edge in the marketplace? What would give the person an edge other than OCP (which many not really help either)? Should I work with PL/SQL as well or should I concentrate on areas like Partitioning, Parallel Query, Parallel Server, Standby Databases, Replication? Which of these should I concentrate on?

Thanks for your help

Vinnie
