Re: entry-level job for total newbie?

I've actually got a friend who is moving to Silicon Valley from Los Angeles this coming weekend, so I plan on crashing with her when the time comes -- most likely, January 2001. So having lots of money won't be a factor, initially. And, as for landing myself a job, I've been advised, and believe this to be the best idea, that I should first make a lateral move into a company with database needs, then hope to make the eventual migration. I'm an assistant buyer for a major corporation, so I'm hoping this might carry some weight. If not, I can always move back East, as much as I detest the idea.
