There are know problems with Oracle 8i on Linux.
Try running the
cd /mnt/cdrom/install/linux
./runIns.sh rather than ./runInstaller.
There is a known bug with the Installer. I don't think jre version 1.1.8 is supported either, try 1.1.6 v5 .

I got this error when running /cdrom/runInstaller:

Here is my path:

sr/local/jre/bin:/usr/local/jdk1.1.8/bin:/opt/applix/:/home/swun/bin
Envoirnment variables:
path (/sbin /bin /usr/sbin /usr/bin /usr/games /usr/local/bin
/usr/X11R6/bin
/usr/local/jre/bin /usr/local/jdk1.1.8/bin /opt/applix/
/home/swun/bin)
I have install jre.1.1.8i for FreeBSD/Linux in the /usr/local directory, still can't get this problem pass... :(
What should I do to fix this problem??
