Hi ck,

From my experience, SQL Server is mostly used on large e-commerce sites. Normally people use something like MS Access, for small databases and SQL Server for larger databases. For example, the world record performance for large databases is the TPC benchmark, www.tpc.org and that was done with SQL Server. Oracle seems to be used alot in government and education. I did quite a bit with Oracle for a departmental system at a Telecommunications company, though those places use terradata alot for the big systems.
