Odd, Rulebased query improves with statistics!!?

Has anyone had the experience of having a query with a RULE hint
improve as the result of tables being analyzed?  We have had a query
improve from 1 min. 36 secs. run time to 6 seconds by analyzing the
tables in the query.  I don't get it.



Anyone similar else with similar experiences? By the way, we're using
7.3.4 in Solaris 2.5 and 8.0.5 and Digital Unix (can't remember the
 version).
