tablespace, Oracle 8.x

I have create a tablespace on a striped volume, the volume isn't mirrored..
The mirroring isn't necessary because I can reconstructed the tables and data fast from
another source.

My problem is that I don't how Oracle will behave when a tablespace isn't reachable because one of the disk in the strip set is broken. Can I tell Orcale to ignore a tablespace.
