Indexes of Table 'INVALID' after 'alter Table add <Column>'

Hello!

ORACLE: 8.0.5.2.0: OS: NT 4.0 SP3 I added some new columns to the table. After that i detetcted that almost all indexes changed there status to 'invalid'. Why?.
I think adding new columns to the table never changes the rowid of the table-row and so all old indexes should not become 'invalid' ?

Do you have an idea??
