jdk & jdbc compatibility

Hi, I'm currently doing some research about using third parties java developer tools (sun's jdk 1.2 and ibm websphere) to link with oracle8i. And I'm just wondering if you can help me answer the following question :-

1. is third party jdbc and jdk (like sun jdk 1.2) 100% compatible with oracle8i ?
