Hello!

We are experiencing strange problems when connectiong to a newly installed Oracle 8i server (Solaris 2.7):

1.) A local connect via TCP/listener is successful.

2.) A tnsping from a linux box (8.0.5) is succesful.

3.) A remote connect from the linux box is _not_ succesful. The error number is:
ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist

The same applys to Oracle 7.3 clients.

Is this due to the high server release? I.e. do I need to install 8.1.5 client software to connect to this server version?

Best regards!
