Use BDEADMIN to create your Oracle alias. Use the SID in the DATABASE NAME parameter; for example: DATABASE NAME=ORCL. Make sure your VENDOR INIT matches the DLLs supplied with your Oracle client. I believe VENDOR INIT should be OCI.DLL for Oracle 8i.
