Hi Just wanted to say that infact its the operating system which is hardware dependant ORACLE has no such restrictions. Only the path or directory of data files and control files should be the same rest allocation of shared memory,semaphores is taken care by the operating system. Please correct if i am wrong but i have proted physically from NT servers of totally different config. regarding RAM,hdd etc and they have worked.

So an exact config. is not required,EXPORT is always there for backup but u have to recompile lot of database objects like libraries etc which usually stop functioning.
