Re: Changing Block Size

Basically:

• Full export of the database (use Oracle*Export)
• Shutdown database (SHUTDOWN NORMAL)
• Edit initfile to reflect the new blocksize
• Start the database instance only (STARTUP NOMOUNT)
• Create the new database (CREATE DATABASE), overwrite the old controlfiles and system tablespace files
• Open the database (ALTER DATABASE OPEN) [mayby this is already done by the previous command)
• Remove the datafiles for other tablespaces
• Do a full import of the database (use Oracle*Import), All old datafiles and tablespaces are rebuild.

As you see the original database gets completely destroyed, so the nessecary care should be taken:
- read ALL relevant sections in the manuals - make a normal backup just before you start doing this
