There are at least two good ways to do this:

  1. If the original database is not too large, a very simple way to do it is to export it with full=y and compress=n. Then, import it into a new database instance.
  2. Another good way, especially if the database is very large, is to copy the datafiles (with the original instance shut down) to new files, then bring up a new instance with a new name using the new files. This is a fairly complex process - obtain a copy of Oracle Corporate Support Problem Repository paper number 1006497.6 for all the gory details. You can get this paper from MetaLink or other sources.
