yes, either of these work.

Note that in the first case (8.0.5 connecting to 8i) you will want to use the 8i version of the network configuration tools (that is, Net8 Assistant), rather than the 8.0.5 version, to configure the client. This is because the syntax has changed for the address of the database (8i uses "SERVICE_NAME=" instead of "SID=", and obviously the 8.0.5 configuration tools aren't yet aware of that.)
