error 03113

Please help - Oracle support seems to have no clue about this shutdown. It's Oracle 8.0.5 on Solaris 2.7. Running a sqlldr session and the db shuts down - no rhyme, no reason. I can 'startup nomount,' then I can 'alter database mount,' but then when I 'alter database open' I get: ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel.
ANY ideas? We've gone through the checklist for UNIX 03113 errors and there's no help there.
