Only VeriSign's Certificates supported. If you try to use cert. from another CA you'll receive error you describe.
It's realy bad feature I think.

But there is a way. To use 4.0 version with Apache http listener. (If you can use OAS 4.0, of course). OAS 4.0 supports Apache as external listener.
Add-on: you can generate cert for apache by youself. No stupid export limits (only 512 bit certs).
