SQL*plus hangs and hogs CPU on 8.0.5

I installed Oracle 8.0.5 on a Sun Enterprise 250 running 2.6 Solaris, which should be up to date on all patches.

The problem I'm seeing is that the SQL*plus client locks up (calling it with the user/pass_at_SID method) and consumes significant CPU resources. It never gives me a SQL> prompt. I have to kill it from another session.

svrmgrl works though.

I can connect with SQL*plus from other systems, and that works fine.

I have installed 8.0.5 on other Solaris systems, 7.3.4, and 8i also, and I have never ran into this. Anybody know what's going on?

Oh, the tnsnames.ora file looks fine, BTW.
