CONTROLFILE_REUSE

I'm wondering if anyone can provide some reasons to use the CONTROLFILE_REUSE clause of the CREATE DATABASE statement? Someone recently asked me about this, and I have no idea what answer to give. I never use it. I just delete the old control files an recreate them. I know what the clause does, but given the relatively small size of control files relative to other database files, I don't know what I would gain from using it. Any insights?
