    That is actually a very good question!     BTW, Thanks all for your answers! You're a great help!     Ted brought up a very good point in how is Oracle handling this in the background?
Are they simply creating a new table and deleting the old? That might be too resource-intensive for a big table with lots of indexes, links, etc.
